Selwood Community Projects – Ipswich Town F.C

Ipswich town is a big deal in the Selwood Offices. As any man will know the love that is felt for their chosen football team can rarely be matched. Many of us in the office are huge fans of Ipswich town or ‘tractor boys’ as they are otherwise known. As with many of our community projects we get involved with, it is vital that we are somehow linked to them or they are a cause we feel passionate about.

We are corporate sponsors of Ipswich Town and regular attendees to matches. The local team began life in 1878 and now play in the Npower championship. Over the years we have sponsored various different players. In 2009/10 we sponsored Jack Colback whilst he was on loan from Sunderland. In the following season we sponsored Mark Kennedy, republic of Ireland international, who prior to joining Ipswich played for QPR, Liverpool and Manchester City.

We currently sponsor ex England international, Lee Bowyer. The midfielder has previously played for Leeds, Newcastle, West Ham and Birmingham City.

Selwood Products Community Projects – Bury St Edmunds RFC

Selwood Products are proud to be able to have retailers selling our climbing frames and outdoor play equipment as far as USA and Australia, from a tiny village in Suffolk where we’re based. As Selwood as grown we want to give what we can back to the community, through our community projects.

Formation & Tragedy

The Bury and West Suffolk Rugby Football Club first took the field in 1925 and since then have become an integral part of the Suffolk community. Moving from Culford school to the Haberden in Bury St. Edmunds in 1963, the team went form strength to strength consistently fielding 4 teams.  However, in 1974 tragedy struck and 17 members of the team were killed in a plane crash on their way back from a club trip to Paris.

Redevelopment

Understandably it took the club and Bury town many years to recover. Over the years the club worked on improving their facilities and raised enough money to build a new club house which was then extended in the late 1980’s. In 2006 the club added a state of the art all weather pitch, one of only four in England.

Why Selwood Products chose Bury Rugby Club

We decided upon Bury Rugby Club primarily because of its great Minis and Youth development. As with the climbing frames and outdoor play equipment we manufacture, outdoor activity and exercise is greatly encouraged and focused on by the club. There are many people who give up their time to provide first class coaching across all the teams; Minis, Juniors, Colts, Ladies and Seniors and we are happy to be able to help them as much as we can. We began sponsoring the rugby club in April last year and are proud to be involved with such a well-established and reputable team.

Selwood Community Projects – Suffolk Horses

Despite manufacturing and distributing outdoor play equipment such as climbing frames, swing sets and wooden playhouses across the globe, we take pride in the fact that we are based in the Suffolk countryside. Since starting up the company in 2002 we have endeavoured to involve ourselves in the local community as much as possible.

We are passionate about outdoor play equipment and strive to manufacture and distribute the best climbing frames and swing sets at the lowest prices. We are also passionate about the various community projects we dedicate our time and money to. One of which is Suffolk or working horses. The status of Suffolk horses, or Suffolk Punch horses as they are also known, is currently listed as critical by the UK Rare Breeds Survival Trust although the population is slowly increasing. Characterised by their stocky build and chestnut colour they were originally developed for farm work and unfortunately when agriculture became more mechanised they’re numbers declined. In 1966 just six Suffolk foals were born.

Situated on a farm we are lucky enough to jointly own two working horses, Euston Obsidian (otherwise known as Sid) who is a 3 year old Suffolk Punch, and Ludwell Salix Alba (Boysie) who is a 6 month old Percheron. Our Managing Director is particularly passionate about the cause and next year hopes to attend as many regional agricultural shows with Sid and Boysie as possible.
