All of our climbing frames here at Selwood Products come with their own specific play features for all children to enjoy. Each Play set has its own specific design and selection of features which makes them so appealing. We believe by incorporating a wide range of features and accessories into our climbing frames , it offers children with a broader selection to choose from and also enhances their active play experience. Below are just a select few of what you can expect to find !

Sandpit Area 

A number of our play sets come with a sandpit area situated directly below the fort (Play sets) deck. All that’s required is too add a simple ‘weed suppressant’ membrane and a few bags of play sand to transform the designated space into an enjoyable sandpit.

Picnic Tables

Picnic tables are also another addition that can been seen attached to some of our play sets. Picnic tables make a great accessory to include with a play set because they provide the opportunity to relax in addition to play.  It’s great to be able to stop for lunch without having to try and drag the kids into the house, and can provide opportunity to sit and talk, colour, paint and play with siblings or friends.

 

 

Chalk Wall 

The Chalk wall is a feature that a large proportion of our wooden climbing frames portray.   The Vinyl Tarp based walls come in specific sizes made to fit each frame. Drawing is the perfect way to encourage a child’s creativity, and what better way than have a vinyl chalk wall on your play set for the kids to enjoy. The vinyl chalk wall is easy to wipe clean and is torsion tested to withstand sufficient force .

Selwood Slides – Why our Slides are Great ?

Here at Selwood Products we have a fantastic range of slides available to accompany our climbing frames. There unique characteristics have them regarded as some of the best available. All slides vary in size and are designed to meet the deck heights for various frames. They are all made from strong durable plastic, most coloured green as to deter insects in the summertime. Our slide range consists of the following specific types of slide;

  • Tube slides, Curved Slides and Straight slides!               

Slide characteristics

High sided Rails –  All our slides hold extra high sided rails at the top of the slide to help children get onto the slide and also prevent any falls / accidents.

Raised Bottom Lip – Each slide has a raised lip at the bottom so the kids hit the ground with their feet landing firmly on the floor and not their bottoms.

UV Inhibitors - Each slide is UV tested and has built in UV Inhibitors to protect it from the sun’s rays. This helps keep the product cool and not too hot to touch for when in use by the kids.

Reinforced Slide Rear – All our slides have reinforced rears which adds extra stability to the structure of all slides. This extra support also helps withstand the pressures of children running up the wrong way up the slide and any other strains it may be put under.

Enhanced Wave – Our straight slides consist of an added wave to help make the children’s decent down from the climbing frame, faster and more enjoyable.

Rock wall

All our climbing frames here at Selwood Products include a rock wall as well as a standard ladder to help your children access the frame. The rock wall offers children with more of a challenging climb onto the frame itself . Its Colorful rocks and solid structure provide a safe and enjoyable option for your children to uptake. As well as being a fun option to accessing the climbing frame, the rock wall helps enhance an individuals hand to eye co-ordination and general motor skills when working their way up the wall .

Glider  

The Selwood Glider is a fantastic accessory which can be attached to all our frames at Selwood products. Its fun swing action contains two seats and allows children to sit back to back and glide back and forth.The glider is constructed of strong durable plastic and is yellow and green to compliment your play set and its other accessories. It can be used individually as well as a duo. 

Tube & Curved Slide

Our fantastic Tube slide range is a proven hit with all children. They offer children a fully enclosed and exciting decent down from the frame and apply a superb cutting edge to the overall appearance of each set. The tube slides allow children to ride down from a decent of 3.65m (12ft) in total and take up the least amount of space when compared to all other slides we offer with our play sets. The slide turns in on itself rather than sticking out to the front or side of the play set. It spirals once in the middle and flattens at the bottom so children land on their feet and can soon be on their way up the play set ready to slide down again.

The curved slide range consists of slides slightly longer than all straight slides. This is predominately down to the design of the curved slides with the fixed bend in place that curves round to the front of each play set. This feature not only gives children a slightly longer ride but adds great character to the overall appearance of the frame itself. Like all straight slides our curved range all feature high rails to ensure maximum possible safety for your children.

Monkey Bars

Monkey Bars are great fun as all kids love the chance to climb, hang and swing like monkeys. Our Monkey ladder swing packages can be bought with climbing frames or on their own as an additional accessory. Monkey bars are a great addition to any climbing frame and prove a big hit with all children. Our monkey bar climbers come in two varieties, the stand alone monkey bar, or the combination monkey bar and swings. Both have a ladder at the end, and easy grip rungs long the horizontal monkey climber. The monkey bars are normally about 1.8m (6ft) from the ground.

Selwood Products – Slide Range

Here at Selwood products we have a fantastic range of slides on offer that come with our play sets. We all know how beneficial outdoor play is for children and slides are the finishing touch to any outdoor play structure, helping to keep children entertained all day long. Slides are perfect for making a quick descent from any elevated play system / climbing frame and add a fun, safe and speedy element to all frames for your kids to enjoy. Are slide range consists of the following, Straight slides, Tube slides and Curved slides. All slides vary in size and are designed to meet the deck heights for certain frames. They are all tested to EN71 Safety standards, which means they are only suitable for residential use only.

All slides are made from strong durable plastic, most coloured green as to deter insects in the summertime. They are all high-sided to prevent any accidental tumbles, so your child will be well supported as they make their descent. Each slide has a raised lip at the bottom so the kids hit the ground with their feet landing on the floor and not their bottoms.  Each slide is UV tested and has built in UV Inhibitors to protect it from the sun’s rays. This helps keep the product cool and not too hot to touch for when in use by the kids. We have also reinforced the rear of our slides to make them extra strong, and to easily stand up to children running the wrong way up them!

Straight Slides

We offer our customers a fantastic range of straight slides to accompany are play sets. Otherwise referred to as straight wavy slides as they contain a slight wave in the middle, these offer children a fast and exciting exit down from the climbing frame. All straight slides feature high rails to ensure the easiest and safest entry possible as well as having flat bottom bases to aid landing once descended. These injection moulded HDPE slides are are also reinforced to make sure they are extra hard wearing. All straight slides are made of durable, green plastic – a perfect colour choice during the summer as it won’t attract the bugs!

Curved Slides

The curved slide range consists of slides slightly longer than all straight slides. This is predominately down to the design of the curved slides with the fixed bend in place that curves round to the front of each play set. This feature not only gives children a slightly longer ride but adds great character to the overall appearance of the frame itself. Like all straight slides our Curved range all feature high rails to ensure maximum possible safety for your children. The curved slides for the 1.2m (4ft) decks are 3.05m (10ft) in length, and those on the 1.5m (5ft) decks are 3.65m (12ft) in length.

Tube Slides

Our fantastic Tube slide range is a proven hit with all children. They offer children a fully enclosed and exciting decent down from the frame and apply a superb cutting edge to the overall appearance of each set. The tube slides allow children to ride down from a decent of 3.65m (12ft) in total and take up the least amount of space when compared to all other slides we offer with our play sets. Play Set Maintenance – Top Tips !

Here at Selwood products we are known for supplying you with the best value play equipment on the market. We aim to bring you the highest quality at the lowest prices. Our vast range of Outdoor Play sets / Climbing Frames are designed and constructed of quality materials with your Child’s safety in mind. However as with all outdoor products and especially ones which are used by children, weathering and wear will gradually occur over periods of time. This is why it’s important to maintain your play set properly and maximize the enjoyment, safety and overall life of your set.

Your Play set can be enjoyed by your children all year round. Most notably summer is the season which see’s the highest percentages of play by young children. During cold seasons such as winter, some prefer to remove/take down particular parts of there play sets to protect them from weathering. Here are a few key maintenance tips that will help keep your frame safe and looking pristine all year round.

Hardware

  • Inspect all Bolts, Lag and Pan Screws for tightness. We recommend you check Hardware ‘twice’ a month during play season.
  • All Hardware must be firmly against, but not crushing the wood. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as you can increase the risk of the wood splitting.  
  • Check for any sharp edges or protruding screw threads.
  • Check all Swing Hangers at least once a month during play season. All Hangers should be secure and orientated correctly. The hook should rotate freely and perpendicular to support beam. If any squeaking occurs lubricate the bushing with oil or WD-40.  

 

Swings, Ropes, Glider & Other Accessories

  • Re-install any parts if removed for the winter.
  • Check all aspects of the parts for any wear and tear or signs of rust. ( Swing seat , Chains , ropes , Plastic covering . etc )
  • Check that all ropes are tight and secure at both ends and cannot loop back on themselves to create an entrapment.
  • Replace any parts that have succumbed to severe deterioration.
  • To prolong the life we recommend removing swings and other attachments inside to store during the winter periods. When Temperatures drop below freezing plastic parts in particular can become more brittle.

Wood Parts

  • Check all Wood Parts for any signs of deterioration, structural damage or splintering.
  • Sand down any splinters were necessary.
  • Periodic application of an exterior water repellent or Wood stain (Water based) will help improve and prolong the life of your play set.
  • Pro longed periods of sunlight can cause slight fading to the color of any wood. To maintain its appearance touch up / stain your set when needed.

Ground stakes (Anchors)

  • Check all ground stakes for looseness, damage or deterioration.
  • All Play sets should be firmly anchored to the ground during use.
  • Re-secure or replace any stakes if necessary.
  • Ensure that all stakes are placed in at a sufficient depth. ( Minimum & Recommended depth – 35cm ) 

Shock Absorbing Surfacing

  • Rake and check the depth levels of loose fill protective surfacing / materials used for your play set monthly.
  • After periods of bad weather such as high winds, heavy rain /snow always check surfacing levels.
  • Replace or fill up where necessary.

Remember as the owner of a play set it’s vitally important they are properly maintained. The life of your play set will be prolonged year after year if it’s looked after correctly. To replace any parts for your play set or add some new accessories please visit are website !

Team Selwood Weekend Results – 26th/27th May

Over this gloriously hot weekend (26thth/27th May) Team Selwood were competing in their respective disciplines around the UK with some great successes. Read on to hear about our results!

Hilary Boss, and the Andrew Beard owned, Grey Star competed in their third BE 80 at Shelford Manor Horse Trials.
Hilary Boss and Grey Star proved their skill and determination and rode into 3rd place, finishing on their dressage score of 36.0 with nothing to add from the show jumping and XC phases. This is Star’s top result so far and a great achievement for Team Selwood.

Hilary Boss and Selwood Zabala De Foja travelled to the glorious setting of Houghton Hall, Norfolk, for the Open Eventers Grand Prix – a class consisting of 27 jumps both show jumps and cross country fences with the aim being to complete in the fastest time possible. Hilary and Selwood Zabala De Foja finished in 1min.45s thus finishing 8th to the defending champion Matthew wright and many other professional riders.

Harry Beard went with Millfield School’s Equestrian team to to Bryanston School EC, Dorset, with 2 of his rides, Selwood Penny and Dawn Performance (Iceman). Harry competed in the Inter-schools’ show jumping competition where his school team was placed 3rd and 4th.

Team Selwood May 25th -27th

Team Selwood are delighted that the sun has finally hit the UK and all horses, riders and supporters are once again raring to go on both the eventing and show jumping circuits this weekend- 26-27th May.

Team Selwood’s Show jumper, Tim Davies will be training at his base near Bury St Edmunds in Preparation for the International Grand Prix classes at Suffolk Show on 7-8th June.

Hilary Boss and Selwood Zabala De Foja will be heading to the Subaru Houghton International Horse Trials, Norfolk on May 25th to compete in the Eventers Grand Prix Class; every second will count as the pair will have to negotiate a course of 7 show jumps followed by 7 XC jumps and then 7 show jumps, the fastest time wins with £100 up for grabs for the winner.

Harry Beard, our academy student, will be heading to Bryanston School EC, Dorset (May 26th and 27th) with his two rides Selwood Penny and Dawn Performance (Iceman) to show jump in the 70cm and 90cm classes.
